At Ayush Panchkarma, we provide effective ayurvedic skin treatments that address skin disorders from their root cause. Our therapies focus on balancing doshas, detoxifying the body, and improving internal health to promote clear and healthy skin. Using a combination of Panchkarma therapies, herbal medicines, and personalized diet guidance, we treat conditions like acne, eczema, psoriasis, pigmentation, and chronic skin problems safely and naturally.

Heal Psoriasis, Eczema, Acne & Chronic Skin Diseases Naturally with Panchakarma

Your skin is not just a surface — it is a mirror of what is happening deep inside your body. At Ayush Panchakarma, nestled in the Himalayan foothills of Palampur, Himachal Pradesh, we offer the most authentic Ayurvedic skin treatment programme in India — one that goes far beyond creams, steroids, and temporary fixes.

Our approach is rooted in classical Ayurvedic science. We identify and treat the root cause of your skin condition — whether that is aggravated Pitta dosha, accumulated Ama (toxins), impure blood (Rakta Dushti), or a compromised digestive fire (Agni). Using time-tested Panchakarma detoxification therapies, personalised herbal formulations, and a structured Ayurvedic diet plan, we help your body heal itself from within — permanently.

We successfully treat: Psoriasis, Eczema (Vicharchika), Acne & Pimples (Yuvan Pidika), Vitiligo (Shwitra), Dermatitis, Urticaria, Chronic Skin Rashes, Pigmentation, Hair Fall associated with skin disorders, and more.

Ayush Panchakarma is one of the few centres in Himachal Pradesh offering classical, physician-supervised Panchakarma skin detox with personalised herbal medicine and diet guidance — all under one roof in the Himalayan foothills.

Why Skin Diseases Are an Internal Problem — The Ayurvedic View

Modern medicine often treats skin diseases as isolated surface problems. Ayurveda sees them very differently. According to classical Ayurvedic texts like Charaka Samhita and Sushruta Samhita, all major skin disorders (called Kushtha) arise from a deep imbalance involving multiple doshas — most prominently Pitta — combined with accumulated toxins in the blood, lymph (Rasa), and deeper tissues.

This is why topical treatments alone rarely produce permanent results. The skin disease returns because the root cause — the internal toxin load and doshic imbalance — has not been addressed. Panchakarma resolves this at the deepest level.

The Three Root Causes of Skin Diseases in Ayurveda:

  • Rakta Dushti (Blood Impurity): Toxins circulating in the blood manifest as skin eruptions, rashes, discolouration, and inflammation.
  • Pitta Aggravation: Excess heat in the body drives inflammation, burning sensations, oozing, redness, and spreading skin lesions.
  • Mandagni (Weak Digestive Fire): Poor digestion creates Ama — undigested metabolic waste — that accumulates in tissues and triggers chronic skin conditions like psoriasis and eczema.

By correcting all three simultaneously through Panchakarma detoxification and Shamana (palliative) therapies, we offer a level of healing that topical treatment can never provide.

Skin Conditions We Treat at Ayush Panchakarma

1. Psoriasis (Kitibha / Sidma Kushtha)

Psoriasis is one of the most challenging chronic skin conditions — characterised by silver-white scaly plaques, intense itching, and inflamed skin patches that can cover large areas of the body. Allopathic treatment offers steroids and immunosuppressants that manage symptoms but rarely produce lasting remission.

At Ayush Panchakarma, our psoriasis treatment protocol uses a powerful combination of Virechana (purgation therapy) to clear Pitta and blood toxins, Vamana (emesis therapy) where indicated for Kapha-dominant psoriasis, Takradhara (medicated buttermilk stream poured over the body), Lepa (herbal paste applications), and internal herbal medications including Panchatikta Ghrita and Khadirarishta. Most patients see a 60–80% reduction in plaque formation within a 21–28 day residential programme.

2. Eczema & Atopic Dermatitis (Vicharchika)

Eczema presents as intensely itchy, inflamed, cracked, and weeping skin — often worsening with stress, certain foods, and seasonal changes. It affects children and adults alike and is frequently a lifelong struggle when managed only with topical steroids.

Our Ayurvedic eczema treatment focuses on Shodhana (deep cleansing) through Vamana and Virechana, Abhyanga with medicated oils such as Nalpamaradi Taila, Parisheka (medicated liquid stream over affected areas), strict dietary correction eliminating Pitta-aggravating foods, and a personalised oral medication protocol. We have successfully treated patients who had suffered from eczema for 10–20 years.

3. Acne, Pimples & Hormonal Skin Issues (Yuvan Pidika)

Teenage acne, adult hormonal acne, cystic acne, and acne with pigmentation — these are all deeply connected to Pitta and Kapha imbalance, hormonal disruption, and gut health. Ayurveda addresses all three simultaneously.

Our acne treatment includes Nasya therapy, Mukhalepam (herbal face packs), Raktamokshana (leech therapy for severe cystic acne), internal blood purifiers like Sarivadyasava and Manjisthadi Kwatha, and gut healing protocols. For hormonal acne in women related to PCOS, we combine this with our specialised PCOS Ayurvedic treatment programme for comprehensive hormonal balance.

4. Vitiligo & Leucoderma (Shwitra)

Vitiligo — the progressive loss of skin pigmentation resulting in white patches — is among the most distressing skin conditions, carrying significant psychological and social impact. While no treatment offers an absolute cure, Ayurveda has well-documented protocols that slow progression, stabilise patches, and in many cases stimulate repigmentation.

Our vitiligo programme uses Bakuchi (Psoralea corylifolia) oil applications combined with careful sun exposure, internal Bakuchyadi preparations, Khadirarista, blood purification through Virechana, and immunomodulatory herbal support. Treatment response is best when initiated early. We advise a minimum 45-day commitment for visible results.

5. Urticaria, Skin Allergies & Hives (Sheeta Pitta)

Recurring hives, skin allergies, and urticaria — often triggered by foods, stress, weather changes, or medications — reflect a hypersensitive immune-digestive axis in Ayurveda. Our treatment uses Virechana to eliminate the hypersensitivity trigger from the gut-blood interface, combined with Haridra Khanda, Arogyavardhini Vati, and dietary restructuring to prevent recurrence.

6. Other Conditions We Treat

  • Seborrheic Dermatitis — scalp and face fungal-related inflammation
  • Contact Dermatitis — occupational and chemical skin reactions
  • Rosacea — facial redness and broken capillaries
  • Hyperpigmentation & Melasma — dark patches and uneven skin tone
  • Dry Skin & Premature Ageing — deep moisturisation and skin renewal
  • Hair fall linked to skin disorders — seborrheic alopecia, scalp psoriasis

Core Panchakarma Therapies Used for Skin Diseases

Our skin disease treatment protocols draw from the full range of classical Panchakarma therapies. Each patient receives a customised combination based on their Prakriti (constitution), disease severity, and current doshic state.

Virechana (Therapeutic Purgation)

The single most important Panchakarma procedure for most skin diseases. Virechana eliminates excess Pitta and Ama from the small intestine, liver, and blood — directly purifying the two primary causative factors in skin disorders. Preceded by 3–7 days of internal oleation (Snehana) and external oil massage and steam, Virechana produces a profound cleansing effect that most patients describe as transformative — with skin visibly clearing within days of the procedure.

Vamana (Therapeutic Emesis)

Used primarily in Kapha-predominant skin conditions — particularly chronic eczema, psoriasis with thick scaling, and weeping skin lesions. Vamana removes accumulated Kapha and Ama from the stomach and chest, creating a powerful cleansing of the upper digestive and respiratory channels that has a direct impact on skin health.

Raktamokshana (Bloodletting Therapy)

One of the most targeted and effective Ayurvedic skin treatments for blood-borne skin conditions. Raktamokshana — most commonly performed with Jalauka (medicinal leeches) at our centre — directly removes vitiated, toxin-laden blood from the affected skin area. It is particularly effective for localised psoriasis plaques, cystic acne, eczema lesions, and chronic skin ulcers. The results are often dramatic and fast.

Takradhara (Medicated Buttermilk Dhara)

A deeply cooling and anti-inflammatory external therapy where medicated buttermilk processed with Pitta-pacifying herbs is continuously poured over the head and body. Particularly effective for psoriasis, severe itching (Kandu), and inflammatory skin conditions with a systemic component. Takradhara also calms the nervous system, addressing the stress component that frequently aggravates skin diseases.

Abhyanga & Parisheka (Oil Massage & Medicated Streams)

Our skin treatment protocols include daily full-body Abhyanga (Ayurvedic oil massage) with specially selected medicated oils — Nalpamaradi Taila for brightening and anti-inflammatory action, Eladi Taila for anti-fungal conditions, Mahanarayana Taila for musculoskeletal-associated skin conditions, and Kumkumadi Taila for pigmentation and skin rejuvenation. The oil chosen is always condition-specific.

Herbal Lepa (Medicated Paste Applications)

Prepared fresh each day at our centre using classical formulas, herbal Lepas are applied directly to affected skin areas. Formulations include anti-inflammatory combinations with Nimba (Neem), Haridra (Turmeric), Chandana (Sandalwood), Manjistha, and Bakuchi depending on the condition being treated. These produce visible reduction in inflammation, scaling, and discolouration.

Our Ayurvedic Skin Disease Treatment Programme

Every patient who comes to Ayush Panchakarma for skin treatment receives a structured, personalised programme designed by our qualified Ayurvedic physician. Here is what to expect:

Phase 1 — Detailed Consultation & Diagnosis (Day 1–2)

Your treatment begins with a comprehensive consultation including Nadi Pariksha (Ayurvedic pulse diagnosis), assessment of Prakriti (body constitution), Vikriti (current imbalances), skin type, disease history, and lifestyle factors. Based on this, your personalised treatment plan is designed — including which Panchakarma procedures are appropriate, the exact herbal medications, dietary protocol, and duration.

Phase 2 — Purva Karma (Preparation, Day 3–7)

Before main Panchakarma procedures can be performed, the body must be properly prepared through Snehana (internal and external oleation) and Swedana (herbal steam therapy). This loosens accumulated toxins from tissues and channels, moving them toward the gut for elimination. Patients begin herbal medications and the prescribed dietary protocol during this phase.

Phase 3 — Pradhana Karma (Core Panchakarma, Day 8–21+)

The main therapeutic procedures — Virechana, Vamana, Raktamokshana, Takradhara, Nasya, or Basti, depending on your condition — are performed during this phase under the direct supervision of a physician. Daily Abhyanga, Parisheka, and Lepa applications continue throughout. The duration depends on the severity and chronicity of your skin condition — most residential skin programmes range from 14 to 28 days for meaningful results.

Phase 4 — Paschat Karma (Post-Treatment & Rejuvenation)

Following the main cleansing procedures, the body enters a rejuvenation phase using Rasayana (regenerative) therapies — including specific herbal formulations that rebuild skin tissue, restore the microbiome, and enhance skin immunity. Dietary guidelines are gradually relaxed and a long-term maintenance protocol (medications and diet) is provided to prevent relapse after you return home.

Minimum recommended stay for chronic skin conditions: 14 days. For psoriasis, vitiligo, and severe eczema: 21–28 days for meaningful results. Homestay accommodation is available on-site for your comfort.

Ayurvedic Diet & Lifestyle for Skin Health

Diet is medicine in Ayurveda. No skin treatment will produce lasting results without addressing what you eat, when you eat, and how you eat. At Ayush Panchakarma, our dietary protocol is not a generic list — it is personalised based on your Prakriti, disease condition, and season.

Foods to Favour for Pitta Skin Conditions:
  • Bitter greens — neem leaves, fenugreek, bitter gourd, drumstick leaves
  • Cooling fruits — pomegranate, coconut, grapes, sweet lime, amla
  • Whole grains — old rice, barley, quinoa
  • Mung dal — the most skin-friendly pulse in Ayurveda
  • Cow's ghee — anti-inflammatory, Pitta-pacifying, and skin-nourishing
  • Turmeric, coriander, fennel — Pitta-cooling spices
Foods to Avoid During Skin Disease Treatment:
  • Incompatible food combinations (Viruddha Ahara) — a major cause of Ama formation
  • Sour, salty, and spicy foods — aggravate Pitta and worsen inflammation
  • Processed and packaged foods — loaded with Ama-forming preservatives and additives
  • Fermented foods (for most skin conditions) — curd, alcohol, vinegar
  • Nightshades (for psoriasis) — tomatoes, potatoes, brinjal
  • Sesame and mustard oil — heating and Pitta-aggravating

Our kitchen at Ayush Panchakarma prepares all meals according to your prescribed dietary protocol during your residential stay — nourishing, fresh, and aligned with your treatment.

Many patients achieve 70–90% improvement or complete remission. Long-term maintenance protocol prevents relapse.
How long does the skin treatment programme last?Minimum 14 days for mild-to-moderate conditions. 21–28 days is recommended for chronic psoriasis, severe eczema, or vitiligo. Your physician will advise the ideal duration after your initial consultation.
Is the treatment safe for children?Yes, Ayurvedic skin treatments are generally safe for children. Procedures and dosages are adjusted for age and body weight. We regularly treat children with eczema and psoriasis.
